Orthopaedic Specialists of Alabama
The founders of their practice came from backgrounds as physicians for rural Alabama coal mining families with medical residencies in orthopaedic surgery at the old Crippled Childrens Clinic in Birmingham. From one small office where Mrs. Donald Slappey, Sr., wife of Donald Slappey, Sr., served as receptionist, bookkeeper and patient coordinator, Donald Slappey, Sr., M.D., John Morris, M.D., James Faulkner, M.D., and Harold Cannon, M.D., started Orthopaedic Specialists of Alabama (OSA) in 1963. In the past 45 years, OSA has grown to a practice with over 200 employees. These founding families have had the pleasure of seeing second generation of MDs join the practice (Drs. Carter and Donald Slappey, Dr. Scott Morris, and Dr. Stan Faulkner).
They have recently added a third generation member to our practice, F. Spain Hodges, M.D., the grandson of James S. Faulkner, Sr., M.D., and the nephew of J. Stanford Faulkner, Jr., M.D. Mission is to provide outstanding service and care to our patients through education, communication, and continued dedication to improving our practice. their spine specialists offer conservative and surgical care for spinal disorders due to degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, fractures, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis and kyphosis. The cervical, thoracic and lumbosacral areas are treated for disorders arising from degenerative, traumatic, infectious, congenital, developmental and neoplastic disease.
